Years ago when Britney Spears released that song “I’m not a girl, not yet a women” and Esther was probably about 4 or 5 years old when she heard it. When listening to the chorus, she looked alarmed. She turned to me and said “Da jie! If not girl, not woman… Man ah?!”
Anyway I don’t know how this is related but its somehow gender related so…
Guy-ish traits I don’t have.
1 I detest watching football. I can’t stand watching any sport, I prefer to participate. I don’t like talking about it either. So I was a bitch throughout World Cup. I wasn’t one of those girls who said “I hate football” and yet proceed to yak along with the guys. Traitors.
2 I hate snooker, pool or any other games that involves a stick and balls hah and back in high school I refused to sit in stupid snooker centers while the guys play. It’s degrading. If I do go in there, it is to have a cigarette. Same goes for DOTA, Counter Strike and other computer games.
3 I am not interested in cars. As long as there’s a CD player and powerful air-conditioning, I’m fine. I can’t tell the difference between a BMW and Mercedes. In fact they both feel the same from the inside.
4 I don’t like alcohol. I used to drink it sometimes back then but it made me feel like crap. So there goes being that cool girl drinking buddy.
Girly traits that I don’t have.
1 I don’t really enjoy shopping. The last time I bought a pair of shoes was last year. I very rarely spend my own money on clothes and stuff.
2 I am terrible at grooming. I don’t have or use facial cleansers. I have never used a mask or had a facial. If I try to use mascara, I might still poke my eyeball with the stick thing. A year ago I didn’t even have foundation. I do now, I have to grow up sometime but it’s not a daily thing. Oh but I loved getting manicures, if I didn’t have to pay for them. (Shit I think I’m not girly cause I’m stingy la)
3 I LOATHE THE COLOR PINK. It disgusts me so much that whenever I buy a new box of Buncho poster colors, I remove the pink. I never use it anyway.
4 I don’t like chatting on the phone (Rachel and Melanie doesn’t count because they are overseas *sobs).
There’s one human trait I don’t have.
I don’t like sleeping. I think it’s a waste of time. Also because if I sleep more than 5 hours I will feel like crap the rest of the day. I used to sleep every alternate day, sometimes 3 nights out of a week. But now that I’m half of a whole and Ham loves sleeping so much I sleep a lot more. But I still wake up feeling like crap. Muscles aching and shoulders throbbing. I thought I would be used to sleeping by now but when I’m back home at my parents without Ham forcing me to go to bed, I’d be awake all 3 days.

Back to school.
Back to school, back to school,
To prove to dad I'm not a fool.
If you know where that came from, you're cool!
I'll be missing my family :(
In the mornings where daddy would swing open my room door and ask "Are you still sleeping?"
And I'd say, "Yess.."
"Then how come you can answer my question? Wash up, we're going for breakfast."
I like lah this kind of wake up call.

500 miles.
The local radio stations are bearers of bad news. Mtv too.
Joyce and I were in the car and Ma had jst removed all my cds from the cd changer and replaced them with her meditation music with hummingbirds chirping by the waterfall. We had no choice (though actually, silence would have worked out much better) but to listen to the radio. I'm not sure which station it was, one of the itz bitz ones. A familiar song came on and it felt a little strange.
"Joyce, this song sounds familiar. What song is it?"
"Oh oh! We know this song. It's..it's..Dishwalla!"
"Oh yeah! *pause* What's it doing on the radio?!?! It's at least a year old!"
"Oh my god ya!!"
"Another one bites the dust. Their next album is gonna suck."
It's just one of those things which always is. 99% of bands/artists who came out good and end up on the local stations goes to shit. So during these rare times where old songs come out as new hits on the radio, I sigh sadly.
All good bands should do a NOFX and say NO to Mtv. In the early days they did anyways. For almost 2 decades I think?
Speaking of good bands, I'm happily listening to Pennywise's I would walk 500 miles. While listening I thought this is a good song for the Awesome Twosome.
Perry can lay claim on the Less Than Jake version.
Elle would suit the 80s Proclaimers version.
A him to her song for them thought of by me :D
Oh yeah, in addition to his sunglasses-attached-to-visor-cap and his cap-with-a-fan-under-the-hood, my dad also has the one which holds a water bottle on each side of the head.

Mark Twain.
The holidays have been good to me. I’ve had time to read in sizeable quantities again. A book or two a week, none to shout about. I normally wouldn’t buy books unless they are of certain authors or of certain matters, much like how I am with cds. I’ve been going to Walk-In Rent A Book. I’ve finished most of their books in their non-fiction section which is only two small shelves so I’ve had no choice but to move on to the Bestsellers. And Stella Oo does not read Bestsellers. Okay I do. Augusten Burroughs’ latest book is a bestseller and I HAVE to HAVE it. I realized today at the rate I’m reading, I could have bought his book. The rental for each book for members is approximately 5 ringgit. I’ve read almost a dozen books. But anyway, books I borrow and books I buy are like apples and pineapples. Entirely different except in erm spelling.
Although Rachel was back for two weeks and I saw her almost everyday, I can't help but feel its been months since I saw her and had a real conversation. And sometimes Mel seems so far away :( I miss them both.
On a brighter note I can't wait for Sunday to see Ellie try on her bridal gowns. Aran and Tyler wanted to kidnap Pelli for the day while the girls are at Picaso. But Pelli has to try on his suit too you know. So maybe we should make this a Technicolor Outing. Semangat!

Chapped lips.
I could start anywhere. Coming home was like riding a bicycle a little too big for me. It felt unusual, not needing to worry about the dishes and going out with dad everyday without mentally calculating if I’m overspending. The luxury of being a child was overlooked for a while. After all many of us spend a good number of years wanting to be grown up, striving to seem mature, and struggling for independence instead of being independent. Not that I ever did. I’ve always wanted to be a kid forever (hence the humming of the Toys R Us jingle) and at the same time have many happy children. Nevertheless it was not living away from my parents and being the adult that made me like one. It is coming home and feeling like a child all over again that made me feel like I’ve shed a layer of innocence.

Lopsided grin.
There are times frustration gnaws at my joints and I open the door to my room and just before I walked in and lock it I turn to my sister and say "In a few minutes you will hear my chair go over. Give me some time then call the morgue in half an hour"
But its things like this that stops you from keeping ropes (or guns) in your room.
